DIY Fabric Memo Board-Keeping tacks in place

Fabric memo boards seem to be all the rage throughout blogland of DIY and home decor!
I am half through the re-do of my oldest daughter's bedroom.
She needed an area to display her favourite little things.

You know what kind of stuff I'm referring too.
We were all there at one time.
Oh to be 25 years younger again
I put together one she could use that co-ordinated with the colours of her new bedroom re-do!

It was so easy to complete! The great thing about a memo board, other than the obvious, is it serves as a good wall filler. If you are working with a large bare wall and looking to fill it, a fabric memo board is the way to go!
I was able to find a large wrapped canvas board from Michaels Craft Store. They had a huge selection to choose from!
Picking out the fabric was a bit of struggle since my daughter wanted writing in french and in purple. Yah. Get right on that! It took me awhile and a few roads trips but I found some!

Wrapping the board with batting and fabric was pretty quick, and a few staples of it along with black satin ribbon, I was ready for the tacks..... Tacks, you say.

Yeah.
I never even considered how to assemble tacks to keep the ribbon in place.
On goes the DIY thinking cap and this is what I came up with!

Earring backs!
Who wouda thunk it.
The earrings backs fit p-e-r-f-e-c-t-l-y on the back of the tacks.
Complete fluke I'm sure but it all worked out!

  1. Love the fabric choice! I am going to do one of these next to match my Diva's room redo. Thanks for sharing. I would have never thought of earring backs.
